It's not adding up for Shane !

Here is the letter to the editor that was published in the Brownwood Bulletin. Note the date. Brown County Shane Britton claimed in his letter to the editor that I had waited until two weeks before an election to bring up my case or as he put it " make it public". This is a blantant lie on Shane's part (as is his statement that he told me he would not prosecute our case and that I " recently acknowledged this fact directly " to him ). I also have mentioned this case on talk radio numerous times (of which Mr Britton obviously is a listener since he knows of my " all politics are local " statements ) and have even published the CID letter and photos in Nancy Stanley's Newspaper ( Texas County News ) several times.

Here's the email of the letter to the editor and also take note of all of those who are privy to this case, especially Reporter Steve Nash !

Letter to the editor,

Congratulations to Candace Fulton on the capture and incarceration of the “ four burglars, all younger than 20 ” who were the topic of her Viewpoint column in the Monday, December 15, 2003 edition of the Brownwood Bulletin. I’m moved to read of the lightening swift justice she received on her case.

Over two years ago I videotaped a thief in action stealing plants ($250.00 & up) in front of our business. The Brownwood Police were able to ID the thief and forwarded the case (see attached Incident # 01-12382;theft ) for prosecution from the County Attorney. Two years and not a word from the prosecutor. Phone calls to the county attorneys office go unreturned.

I sure hope that Ms Fulton’s case does not receive the same “ justice ” that my case has received ! I watched with great interest the swift arm of the law in the case of the elderly shoplifter in a local grocery store. Talk about swift justice for a less than $ 20.00 dollar theft !

A recent Dallas Morning News Editorial stated: “ The criminal justice system in Texas is so cracked it makes an Armadillo look smooth “. Unfortunately, because of cases I am personally familiar with, I have to agree that there is a degree of truth to their Editorial. Instead of all the talk of removing “ Under God ” from the pledge, it appears to me we should consider removing“ and justice for all ”. That would at least be honest !

Good luck Ms Fulton in your quest for justice and I’m sorry for you having to experience the feeling of being violated ! It’s bad enough to be violated by the criminal, but I’m sure you’d find the violation perpetrated by “ the system ” to be much more earth shattering. The US Attorney General refers to this as a “ compound fracture ” when the public loses faith in the criminal justice system. From what I’ve read so far of your experience, I doubt if you’ll even show a bruise from your experience because I predict that “ the system ” will work for you & your family like a fine tuned engine !

Regards,
Steve Harris
