JEANINE PIRRO
Good Morning ,
I really enjoyed your comments on this mornings show. Your answers were very relevant to our current situation and this document is the tip of the iceberg. My point is that because of the injustice victims in Brownwood and Brown County have faced over the many years from our “judicial system”, would anyone be surprised that these injustices would be exposed to the outside world (reminds me of the Tulia case !). We have worked with the press across the country, testified under oath in Austin in support of the James Byrd Hate Crime Legislation (which finally passed), worked with Legislators in Washington on the impending Federal Hate Crimes Legislation (Arlen Specter, Kay Bailey Hutchinson and many others). I just wanted you to see the document I referred to this morning. This document is one of many that has been spread across the country as evidence of a much larger problem. I look forward to reading your book. Unfortunately,as a native Texan who has lived around the country, I have to agree with a Dallas Morning News Editorial that stated: “The criminal justice system is Texas is so cracked it makes an armadillo look smooth.” Our situation, and the other Tulia’s of Texas, are a perfect example of why the quote above rings true. It’s bad enough to be victimized by the criminal, I find it even more abhorrent when I see the injustice coming from our local judicial officials.

“ The focus of this statement is on hate crimes related to 9/11. We wish not to dismiss other acts of hate that have been leveled against people of color and the gay and lesbian community in Texas.
For one example, the ACLU, with local concerned citizens, is currently investigating a rash of hate crime in Brownwood, Texas. We suspect at least 10 hate crimes in that town alone-including murders and even murders of witnesses to those hate crimes. Local officials have repeatedly refused to investigate or prosecute these crimes according to the mandates of the the Hate Crimes Act. In one instance, a field officer drafted a crime report which clearly documented race as the motive of the violent crime. Nevertheless, the local District Attorney's office still refused to prosecute this at all, much less as a hate crime. Our conclusion is that the law alone is not enough. The Texas Attorney General, or some external body, must be vested with full authority to prosecute these crimes or at least monitor the law's enforcement in some meaningful way. ”
