'' Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor ''

Religion rhetoric is prominent in races

The quest for the '' religious vote '' is so prevalent in this year's election that candidates are weaving spiritual terminology into their campaign rhetoric.

U.S. Rep. Charlie Stenholm, D-Abilene, recently pulled out one of the Ten Commandments to admonish an opponent in the 19th Congressional District race.

''Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor,'' Stenholm said, in response to what he perceives as attacks on his values by his opponent, U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Lubbock.

The two incumbents and Libertarian Dr. Richard Peterson are vying to represent the redrawn 19th Congressional District.

Stenholm said he is anti-abortion, pro-country and a Christian - regardless of what Neugebauer or his ads say.
